An interesting point has been raised by the '" Evening Standard" of special interest to our boys now in London. It Bays: —" The protest published here yesterday against levying a charge on overseas soldiers for the privilege of seeing certain portions of Westminster Abbey has brought mc several letters. They generally agree in tlie view that it is not right that men should be charged fees to see the monument* and emblems of a great history which they are offering their lives to maintain." "I am reminded, however," writes the " Star's" correspondent, " that for three and a-half Tears no charge -was made to soldier? for viewing the chapels, the present charge dating only from March 25 last; that the charge now made to them is half that charged to the ordinary visitor, and that no charge at all is made to the wounded soldier. I am also told on authority that the charge now imposed is made with the greatest reluctance, and is dictated sololy by the fact that the income of the Abbey is altogether inadequate to the maintenance of the fabric, apart from other necessary end unavoidable expenses, to meet which, tut for the war. a public appeal would probably have been made."
