AUCKLAND ORPHANS' CLUB.
The fortnightly meeting of the Auckland Orphans' Club was held on Saturday evenlug. There was a large attendance. Including Colonel R. J. Collins CM.. Aum- , tor-General; Mr M. Cnrr, of the Wellington I Orphans - Club: end Major E. A. Baser prei sirtcnt of the New Zealand Returned' Soldiers' Association. Mr W. J. >apier presided, and spoke brieuy of the slgnincanco of Empire Day. and of the great responsibilities of statesmen la tile present crisis. Col. Collins and Major Boxer also spoke" i the latter statins that the policy ot the I Keturnod Koldleis' Association was constructive, and not destructive. Excellent music was supplied by the orchestra. Songs were given by Messrs. ! CUve Topltss, V. It. Meredith H. VV. |Jessop, A. Colledge, and T. King, Mr Ueo. Walker gave a couple of recitations, Mr George I'oore played an excellent nute solo, and humorous Items were supplied by Mr Alfred Hintz.
