POLICE COURT.
(Before Mr. F. V. Frazer, S.M.) DRUNKENNESS. ilabel JJoach, alias Stanhope (40), for getting drunk when prohibited, 'was fined 20/, in default 72 hours' imprisonment. One first offender was eqnvicted and discharged; one was fined 5/, and two forfeited 'bail. John George Menton (44), who had been caught soliciting money from bypassers at Devonport yesterday, rae prohibited, convicted, and ordered to come up for sentence when called on. ■ Archibald Gillan (26), and George Kelly (3S), were charged with using threatening behaviour in Albert Street yesterday afternoon. Kelly was struck without provocation by Gillan, a' fireman, who was somewhat under the influence of drink. After hearing the evidence, the magistrate dismissed tie charge against Kelly and fined Gillan £5, ordering 10/. of the fine to be paid to Kelly for expenses. CALLED TTP, BTTT MISSING. JTraneis John Walker, alias Francis James Smith, was charged that he had failed to parade for medical examination at Shannon when drawn in the ballot. It was stated that Walker to found serving on a ship under the name of Smith. He'had been drawn last "year in the ballot, at Shannon, and since ilay last year a military warrant had been out for him. Chief Detective McMahon said that Walker stated he was away id Australia at the time of the' 'ballot, •but judging from correspondence written t)T him, it was clear he intended to evade hie military responsibility, while the fact that he was going under another -name seemed to corroborate that attitude. Walker was ordered to -be handed over to the military authorities. RESISTED THE POLICE. Thomas Alfred Rogers (26) was charged that yesterday afternoon he was drunk in Customs Street, assaulted Wm. J. Gilham, broke a window of the Waitemata Hotel, and resisted arrest. The arrest wae the result of excitement at the Waitemata Hotel about 4 pju, yesterday. The evidence was to the effect that Rogers, a fireman, was rowdy in the hotel, and made trouble when the porter tried to put his mate out. The porter then tried to put him out, and he struck the porter and pushed his head through the glass panel of a door. When the police were called hi violently resisted arrest, damaging a constable's trousers. Rogers wae ordered to ■pay 52/6 damages, and was sentenced to two "months' hard labour for the assault and resistance; the charge of drunkenness was dismissed.
