AMERICA PREPARING
FOR A MIGHTY STROKE.
-NEVS : YORIC May 19. _Mr Woodrow VA'ilson has arrived in New York. He will address a Red Cross meeting to-day. The Washington correspondent of the United Press says Mr Wilson yill point ou tthat the United fStatcs must prepare for further sacrifices in order to frustrate Germany's aggressive plans. The United .States" is preparing a mighty stroke before the close of 1919. The War Department has asked the Shipping Hoard to increase its 1919 plans by (10 per cent. Advance contracts have been let in anticipation of the enormous force of Americans it is expected will be sent to the west front. The President will emphasise that a just peace will lie possible only by crushing German militarism. There was no limit to the number of men America was prepared to send tg France. The United States intended to stand by Kussia as well ag France. PHILADELPHIA, May 19. Mr W. If. Toft stated in a speech at the Win the War Convention that the United SUites would have an army of 3,200,000 men liy the end of the year and of 5,400,000 at the end of 1919.— lA. and K.Z. Cable.)
10,000,000 UNDER ARMS. (Received 10 a.m.) LONDON, May 19. Mr Charles Russell, the American publicist and President Wilson's personal friend, was entertained at a luncheon in London. He announced that America would have 10,000,000 men under anna by the end of the present year. — (A. and N.Z. Cable.)
