At the last meeting of the Advisory Board in Wellington it was decided to ask societies to contribute the sum of £3,000 for the New Zealand War Contingent Association, to be ueed at their discretion for the benefit of men who were not sick and wonnded. It w»e suggested that societies should contribute on the following basis of district and percentage of population: — Auckland, 24.54, £736; i Gisborne, 1.96, £59; Taranaki, 5.18, £155; Hawked Bay, 4.88, £145; Wellington, 19-56, 587; Marlborough, 1.60, £48: ' Nelson,-2.66, £80; Weetland, 3.68, £110; Canterbury, 17.12, £574; Otago, 17.86, £390; Southland, 5.88, £176; total, £3,000. Thie matter came before the Auckland executive of the Patriotic Association yesterday afternoon and the meeting went into committee to hear a report from Mr. W. R. Holmes, who hae recently returned from Home, on the subject. Oh reroming, it wss rewired that until the Association received fuller particulare as to the urgency of the need J for this amount, it is not prepared to make any further contribution.
