The usual meeting of the Women's Christian Temperance I'nlon was held on Wednesday afternoon in the Central Mislion Hall. Mrs Cook (president) being In the chair. Rev. F. R. Jeffreys gave a very Interesting talk on tbe social work of our city. A letter was road from Sir James " Allen, Minister of Defence. In reply to a resolution sent re closing hotel bars on the •nival of a troop or hospital ship In New Zealand. Members expressed the opinion j tnat It was monstrous that in this time of crisis, when ai) are called upon to econo- | mlse. that large consignments of whisky , should be Imported into the Dominion when needful commodities are kept hack. The I remarks of Mr Frazer. cs.M.. re the undesir- , ability of showing pictures of crime to children were warmly commenced. The demand of the S.Z. Alliance for a special referendum on the liquor question was Heartily endorsed. A vote of sympathy was Wssed to the fumllv of the late Mr William Wcaardson.
