The Ngatiawa is at present bar-bound at Ohiwa. She is not expected to clear there for this port until some time to-morrow. Owing to the injury to the Tasman at Whakatane bar, her running for that port will be taken over by che Daphne on Wednesday next. The Tasman is only slightly damaged, and will go on the slip for repairs on Wednesday. The Kamona, which arrived yesterday morning from Oamaru, had a rather rough passage. She experienced strong head winds and rough seas, and was consequently late In arriving here. She will tail again for Wellington. Lyttelton and Dunedin at 4 p.m. on Wednesday. A few of the remains of the American •ehooner which was wrecked at Apia recently can still be seen, although she has now practically disappeared. The vessel .was bought for £40 as she lay on the reef, but it was found impossible to salve her. Her cargo of copra washed up on the beaches, and the natives made small fortune- by gathering it in and drying it. A bottle was* picked up on the Waverley Beach recently, bearing a message, which, unfortunately, was not very clear, most of the writing, being undecipherable. The date, January, 1918, was, however, clear, also the words "mines and Cook Strait." The message had evidently been signed, bnt the signature could not be made out. The message was forwarded to police headquarters.
