BOAT HARBOUR WANTED.
ST. MARY'S BAY SUGGESTED. [ I It is estimated that the actual damase caused by the last gale to small craft Is over £5000. In consequence of the destruction at St. Mary's Bay, a movement lis being made witli the object of making II that a safe boat harbour in future. A meeting of yachtsmen has "been convened at All Sainte , Parish Hall at 8 j p.m. on -April 4, at which Mr. C. J. Parr, M.P., will preside. Amongst the speakers will be Messre. E. Davis. J. VV. Jarcs, M. Kelly, C. H. I'oolc, M.l>. for Auckland Host and G. J. Garland. Of late veara St. Mary's Bay, like other parts of the harbour, has silted up considerably, and the movers in the project for a cafe j J boat harbour have a scheme for t |.out the mud , and building a bank to form ,|a protecting wall to break the force of ;, a north-east gale. It is claimed that! • this can .be done effectively, and that"it [■would-afford a eafe-anelumuje for bej tween four hundred and live hundred ~yachts and other boats, while another •(800 could be accommodated inside on I Blips. It is proposed to appoint a deputation .from that meeting'to wait, upon" the: Auckland Harbour Board, with the following request: "(1) , That St. Mary's I Bay, Area C, be reserved as a boat harf bour at once. (2) That as soon as the . Boards finanece permit, the Board E undertake a scheme for the proper for!,niation and building of a boat harbour jut St. Mary's Bay, Area C."
