CABINET REVIEWS THE WAR

ZEPPELIN RAID ON YORKSHIRE

BRITISH AIRMEN BOMB COBLENTZ

The War Cabinet, in reviewing the operations of last year, points out that the character of the fighting underwent a complete change last year, necessitating a reorganisation of Britain's administrative system. The review frankly admits that if the enemy had been able to maintain the submarine rate of February of last year it would have been difficult for the Allies to have maintained their military effort at full pressure, but fortunately the Navy triumphed in the contest. The document contains much that shows that the worst is long since past, and that the future may be looked forward to with confidence. Japan's hour has struck, according to the French Foreign Minister, and her intervention to save Russia being wiped off the map may shortly be anticipated. According to the Japanese Foreign Minister the Allies have not yet asked Japan to intervene, but an exchange of views is proceeding. The British forces in Palestine have made another important advance on the Nablus Road, inflicting heavy casualties on the enemy. A Zeppelin raid on the Yorkshire coast was in progress when our cable budget was dispatched. A few bombs had been dropped inland, but the extent of the damage was not known.
