MORE PAY FOR MARRIED MEN
VOLUNTARY BALLOTS. MELBOURNE, February 25. . The Federal Premier (Mr W. M. • Hughes) outlined the new recruiting ■ scheme to-day. It provides for the 1 appointment of a Royal- Commission to j decide how many recruits are w_.nted each month; for an increase in the separation allowance for married men by 33 1-3 per cent; and for paying interest at the rate of 4A per cent on soldiers' deferred pay. Eligible men are to be asked to submit their names to a district ballot, and to enlist, if drawn, to make up a quota for any particular month. Recruits are to be insured, and bonuses to be paid to recruiting sergeants. Returned soldiers are to replace eligible men whose circumstances do not debar them, but who will not enli3t.—(A. and N__.
