WAIHT-ATHENREE SECTION. ' Sir William Fraser, .Minister for Public Works, has forwarded the follow--1 ing telegram to Mr. P. E. Ohcal, chnir7nan of the Auckland Railway League: — "Yout wiro received. 1 am informed that there are fully fifty men working _at the Athenree section". The. District Engineer cannot place any more until further surveys aro completed. A stair of surveyors 'has been sent up for this work. More men can be placed at once ■at Okahukura Tunnel. Kindly inform ,' District Engineer, Taumarunui, where . they can be obtained, and ho will guarantee their passages. The deputation > which met mc at Auckland urged proj feeding with this work." I When the deputation from the Rail- ' I way League waited upon the Minister \ of Public Works in Auckland, Sir _ William Frascr referred to the shortage j of labour, and Raid if more men were "forthcoming he could find them work; but he was not going to take men from other jobs to put oii the Waihi-Athen-rec section. Following upon that the Railway League advertised in Auckland ' papers for men and got applications.
