BRITISH RED CROSS.
A -meeting , of the joint-conrmittee of; the British Red Cross and Order of St! John "was held this morning, the Mayor, 3lr. J. H. Gunson, presided. ]t was docided to fix the quorum of the jointcommittee at nine. DONATIONS TO ALLIES. The High. Commissioner -wrote Te £10.000 forwarded for distribution amongst Red Cross funds of the Allies, suggesting that it be added to the gen-i eral fund, as the parent Society had! already assisted the funds of the Allies. 1 The chairman expressed the opinion "fiat, as the money was raised for a definite purpose, namely, half to go to the British Red Cross and the balance to be distributed amongst the funds ofi the Allies, the joint-committee had no I ■option out to keep faith with those -who contributed. He knew that the Consuls for Belgium and Italy were pcrturbod in their minds at the suggestion of the! money being diverted as suggested by' the High Commissioner. Mr. Gunson said he felt they were in honour bound to adhere to the terms upon which the money was raised. This was supported! By Mr. W. J. Napier and others. Finally, it was resolved, on the. motion' of tie chairman, that the resolution of la=t August be given effect to l)v the payment of the sum of £2000 eath to the Red Cross Funds of France, Italy,! Belgium, and Serbia, and that the distribution to the Russian. Rumanian, and Portuguese Red Cross funds be left to the parent Society. The meeting considered th- minutes of the recent conference in Christchurch in committee at some length, the delegates reporting upon the proceedings at that gathering.
