CONCERNING "X."

A NEW COMPLAINT. SIMILAR TO MENINGITIS. The letter " X " is the only name that las so far been piven to a new disease Tchich has occurred in the north-west of \ e w South Wales, and which the Board of Health is investigating. •'X" it has been called until experiment and research have sufficiently ertabliahed its nature to enable it to fee more appropriately indicated. The disease, in its symptoms, 'closely resembles cerebro-spinal meningitis, though it differs pathologically. Neither }£ it as serious in its after-effects as infantile paralysis. So far the Board has not had the legal power to deal with contacts as with meningitis, as " X " is not listed as a notifiable disease. That discrepancy will probably be rectified in tie near future. Meantime it will hare to be named. "X " has aroused considerable interest in medical circles.
