EXCHANGED HIS IDENTITY.
NEW ZEALAND SOLDIER CHARGED. . SYDNEY, February 21. A returned soldier named Joseph JVIcAuliffe, alias Joseph Henry Turner, wae committed for trial to-day on a charge of knowingly eigning a false name to a military paysheet. Accused, in a statement made to the police, said his name was McAuliffe. He enlisted in Auckland in December, 1914, went to Egypt, and thence was invalided to England, where he met an Australian soldier named Maxwell, who did not desire to return. He gave McAuldffe liia boat ticket and papers, with permission to use the papers and sign his pay-sheet in Australia." Accused signed Maxwell s name and obtained £2.—(A- and N.Z.)
