At noon to-day three little boys, named Slatty Mearns (4 years), Barnry Smith (4 years) and Bobbie Smith (3 years). •were- in a boat on the Waikareao. The loat drifted out, and it sr-ems that two of the boys jumped out, leaving Barney Smith to be carried out into the estnary. The alarm was given, and the boat was found stranded on a small island. Traces of the child were found on the island, but nothing more, and in a couple of hours the boy's drowned body was found half a mile further along the beach.
