(From Our Own. Correspondent.) TE KUITI, Thursday. The monthly meeting of the Waitomo County Council was held to-day, Councillor 11. Were presiding. Councillor Wall reported that a meeting of ratepayers held at l'ioplp had decided that the proposed loan of £Sooo for metalling the Te Kuiti-I'io l'lo Koad be in- j creased by £20UU, owing to the extra work | that had been found necessary.: The necessary legal steps had been taken for holding n poll of ratepayers on both proposals. The Council approved the actjpn taSen. The Clerk said that power existed for the county to proclaim a drainage area, and, la. the Audit Inspector's opinion, that would be better than formli\s si dralna-e board at Kio Kio. It was decided to proclaim the area a drainage area, and that the country should do the work. It was left to the Clerk to arrange for a ■poll of ratepayers for a loan of £500 to defray the cost of mating a stock track! from the Pio Pio-Aiia Koad to the sale- j yards. Councillors Lee and Johnstone and I the Engineers were left to go Into the position of the Te Kuiti-llangatikl Koad. I An expenditure of £70 would form the worst Rortion through a swamp, and give a connection on the flat. The Chairman and Clerk, Councillor Wall and the Engineer, were appointed a sub-committee to meet the Awakiuo county chairman, with a view to discussing the amount to be paid out of the Mangaotald j loan. Awakino County had asked for £2100 ! on account of works already done. A notice of motion to spend £1000 pumicing the Mokaulti Flat was rescinded, and the road wiU continue to be formed as originally provided for with the ratepayers' consent. The New Zealand Farmers' Union Aria branch, urged asKing the Minister of Public' Works for a' straight-out gran* for metalling the Pio Pio-Aria Road. The, Clerk had replied that this was practically Impossible, as the Minister naturally wanted to know bow grants were being expended. It. was decided to donate £5 towards the Auckland district fire brigade demonstration to be held at Te Kuitl on March 30 A settler on the Kopaki Road wrote and complained that the metalling work being done was not satisfactory. Councillor Warren confirmed this, and urged the oppolntraent of a local inspector. The Council appointed Mr Bates to act as inspector on this rgad. Councillors generally recorr nised that the Engineer could not be everywhere, and a committee was appointed to Sim! to additional assistance being provided. A complaint was received as to the state of the Ohura Road between Kaeaea and Aria. Councillor Tolme said the Engineer had made arrangements for a man' to "work the grader, but the man was laid up. They conld only wait. The matter was left in the hands of the Engineer.
