AMERICA'S SHIPYARDS.
STRIKES AND SCANDALS. GOVERNMENT'S DRASTIC ACTION. (Received 9 a.m.)
NEW YORK, February 15
Mr Hurles (chairman of the Shipping Board) urges the shipyard strikers to resume work as a patriotic duty, and thus enable America to send a continuous supply of munitions and food to France. He announced that six shipyards would be taken over by the Government.
The Government is likely to adopt the drastic action of taking over all the shipyards.
As a result of the charges that £5,000,000 have been squandered in construction at the Government shipyards on Hog Island, in Philadelphia, President Wilson has ordered an investigation with a view of criminal proceedings, if they are justified.— (A. and X.Z. Cable.)
