Tho Taeron Chamber of Commerce met on Tuesdaj evening. It was decided to write to the Prime Minister asking him 'or a further reply with reference to tho estates under offer for returned soldiers. The To Awamutu Chamber of Commerce wrote requesting the co-opera'ion of the Chamber on the Arapunl hydro-elect rle scheme, and forwarded the following resolution which it had passed: fThat this Chamber of Commerce desires to c.press its appreciation of the action of the t>oPerument in bringing forward tho proposal for the establishment of a hynro-c'oct.-lc station at Arapunl, which will tend to develop all industries in the North Island more than any other project now in view. It urges upon the Government to perfcci its plant, so that the work cnu be put in hand with a very minimum delay." It was decided to support the movement. At a meeting of the committee of the Ohlnemurl Jockey Club last week it was decided to pay out £125 from the profits of last race meeting, the money to be divided as follows: £_5 each to the Salvation Army War Work. Church of England Field Serrieo, Roman Catholic Kiel- Service, Presbyterian Field Service, and Methodist Field Service. The two previous amounts paid out were £200 to the V.M.C.A. and £100 to the Bnuraki Comforts Committee This leaves a balance (In the bauds of the club) of £S7. for distribution to patriotic causes.
