-MOTOR-CYCLE AND SIDE-CAR.

As the result of a motor-cycle accident on Saturday afternoon, Adolph fcjcliuleiiberg, a married man, residing at Creawick Terrace, Northland, Wellington, had his gkull fractured and succumbed at the Wellington Hospital about 2 o'clock yesterday morning. -froiu a statement made by Victor Ernest Larcomb, a clerk in the employ of the GoUin Proprietary, residing at Ennismere boarding-house, Boulcott street, he was riding a motor-cycle down a street in Northlands with a eide-car attached, in which a fel-low-employee, was seated, w-hen the fatal accident occurred.

The motor-cycle and side-car were proceeding down a very eteep grade about 4.45 p.m., travelling elowly at first, but gathering speed as they descended. Larcoinb states he applied the brake, but found that it had little effect. While turning a corner Larcomb had to turn his handle-bar to the right, and in doing so his right handle-grip came off the handle. Larcomb lost control of the machine for a second or so, and it appeared to be heading direct for a large rock on the corner of the road. The deceaeed, reaching from the side-car, grabbed both handle-bars, and in doing so he turned the machine sharply to the left, causing it to capsize over a steep bank down on to a ,road 40 feet below. Schulenberf was thrown clear of the machine, and seemed to fall on his thead. Larcomb fell- under .the machine and was dazed for a few minutes. When the latter recovered be found Schulenberg was lying on the road seriously injured. In answer to a telephone call, Dr. Faulke arrived promptly on, the scene, and ordered Schulenberg's removal to the hospital- The ambulance arrived a few minutes later and -the sufferer was taken, to that institution, where he subsequently expired.

Larcomb gave it as his opinion that had deceased not grabbed the handlebar the machine would have collided with the Tock, and the result would not have been so serious. Larcomb was eeverely shaken and bruised.
