D. IllcKenzie, chairman fii the Auckland Education Board, said hS knew of no I reasonable ground, sd Jar aa the AuckI land Education Board was concetnned, j why the spirit of the resolution should ibe "given effect to. He expressed the i opinion that the resolution had its : origin in' the action of Mr. Pirani, of the Wanganui Education Board, and other ! Boards, refusing to recognise the ordini ary scheme of promotion for teachers. | j While Education Boards may not j ! always do "the wise thing." he said, I i they generally do their best to help i forward the cause of education, and accordinfriy he knew of no good reaeon why education board* should be done away with- The Auckland Board had always fairly met reasonable requests I from* the Xew Zealand Teachers' Educational Institute. They had had no 1 quarrel with them, and as far as he was j aware, the Institute likewise had not quarrelled with the Board. In conclusion he gave it ac his own Impression that teachers generally are somewhat impracticable in their demands.
