BANANAS TO BE SCARCE.

AUCKLAND STOCK DWINDLING. ISLAND STEAMER MISSES'A TRIP. Auckland is coming on to practically a bare market as far as bananas are concerned. The stocks upon which the fruiterers are now working will be practically exhausted by the end of the present week. They arrived here about December 27. The next shipment will be from Fiji about February 4, when the demand wiU be fairly keen. The position has been brought about by the fact that the boat which brings up the monthly supplies from Rarotonga according to custom wiU miss the December trip. This is due to this steamer being subsidised for only 12 trips at four-weekly intervals per year, whereas 13 trips (every four weeks) could be undertaken within that period. '
