OBITUARY.
HRS. ANNE BETTANY. A resident of Ponsonby for the last 40 years, Mrs. Anne Bettany died last weei. in her 82nd year. Deceased was born in Manchester, and came to New Zealand with her husband, Mr. A. Bettany, in the ship Shaliinar, in 1862. The husband, who was a veteran of the Indian Mutiny, also saw service during the Maori war. For many years he carried on business as a provision dealer in this city. His death occurred about 20 years ago. Mrs. Bettany was a prominent temperance worker in bygone years, also a well-known singer at church gatherings, being one of the original members of St. John's Methodist Church, Ponsonby. She was a member of the first choir of that church. Mrs. Bettany is survived by two sons, one daughter, 6even grandchildren, and two greatgrandchildren. One grandchild, Gunner Arthur Bettany, is now at the front.
