There was a very short sitting of the | Police Court this morning, when three cases of drunkenness were disposed of. One first offender forfeited bail, one was convicted and discharged, and George Miller (47), for a second offence, was fined 5/-, in default 24 hours' imprisonment. There still 6eems to be a little uncertainty regarding the Anniversary Day holiday, which it was decided to hold on Monday, January 28, instead of the 29th, as the banks cannot fall in with the altered Sate without the consent of the Minister for Finance, who has already authorised a 'bank holiday for the 29th. The Takapuna Jockey Club has applied to the Minister for Internal Affairs to allow its permit for the Tuesday to apply instead to the preceding day, and it is thought that no objection will ibe raised. The races will, in that case, ibe held on the 28th, and the banks will endeavour to have their holiday fixed fox the same day.
