CHURCH AND THE WAR.

(3y Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Following on the recent conference of the Military Service iroaras r>ir Jas. Allen stated to-day that in England the clergy are exempted by Act from the operation of the Military Service Act, and come up for service as chaplains. Here they were not exempt, but the Boards have agreed to follow the evident policy of Parliament, which was to exempt them from the provisions of the Act in line with the British practice. Regarding religious orders including Marist Brothers the Boards are also following the Bri/ish practice. The appeals are heard, and unless there is some good reason to the contrary, are adjourned sine die. Should the practice in Britain alter the matter will be reconsidered.
