.- " WASHINGTON, January 10. Mr. N. D. Baker, secretary for War, told the Senate that the personnel of the United States army numbered 110,856 officers and 1,428,650 men. The transportation ariH training were proceeding at an unprecedented speed. There was a substantial army now in France. The Epirit was high, and the death rate lower than in civil life. "More has been done than anybody would have believed by the American accomplishments to depress the German moral. When it is realised that we have not blundered or hesitated, but have brought our full power of men and resources quickly against Germany it will also be recognised that no army of similar size in the world's history was ever raised, equipped and trained so quickrv," he declared ' (A. and Xi Cable.)
