GARDEN FETE AT TAKAPUNA.

The pretty grounds belonging to Mr. E. W. Alison, at Takapuna, were heflagged on Saturday for the garden fete -which wag held by.the Takapuna Mine Sweepers' Dependents' Guild. Mrs. Carter and >Irs. Hall,.of Milford, were busily engaged the attractions, wliile Air. and Mxe. Alison did everything in their power to welcome the guests. The Mayor of .Takapuna, Mr. W. Blorafleld, in a short speech drew attention to the great need there wae for the .ladies' vork in aid of the mine-sweepers, and the splendid work done by these men. The stalls were arranged about-the garden in picturesque spots. Under a large group of''tree :ferns were plain and fancy ncedtoyork stalls, in charge of Mesdames Barton, Cooper, Stichbury, Veate, arid 80nd..,: A fishpond 'in'a rustic arbour was controlled by • Mesdamca Bacu and Sherritt, while a' cake'stall and

soft driulos nae erected under the shade of a fine. maple-tree, and was managed by Mrs. Crasher' and , Mies McGaffin, assieteu by a committee of small friends. The sweets' were in "tbe : same grove of trees under the-'igbntrol of Misses"Carter,' Clark, Doris Somerville, Buchanan, and ■L. Marshall. The. flower stall -was managed by th'e-Misaee Buchanan and Hanson. Mrs. Lawton was in charge of the produce 'still, and the afternoon tea was served, in a large marquee which; -was erected on.the. lawn. Tea was served by Meedames ilall, ?■ Johnston, Busby, arid the liieeee Wright, Itall, Duder "and ; ,'Johnston. . A stall of ' strawberries and cream , was under the "control ■of Mesdames Mair and Fotheringham, while the competitions were manage^ -fy ißes Stubt«.
