(Frp2_ Our Own Correspondent.) .SUVA (Fiji), December 14. lIAX S LAUGHTEE, At the criminal sessions of the __.pr.me Court, Gabriel Gomez), an Indian who killed another Indian, ripping open bis abdomen with a knife, was ■found guilty °f manslaughter, and sentenced to ten years' penal servitude. ;_j_otber accused, a Fijian Seni, who -.hot two Fijians, Vitori and Aminasi, "Was also found guilty of manslaughter, and sentenced to seven years' penal servitude. According to the evidence it seemed in the latter case that the Fijian was Undergoing a process of what is called "huteracking," when he fired at his assailants -with a revolver. '"Buteracking" in Fiji is not an uncommon offence among the natives. The methods are simple. The man to be dealt with is thrown on the ground and the rest of them walk over him. dance on him, and add to matters by employing their spare time hitting him, principally with the open hand. Witnesses who saw the accused after the affair Said ihe bore signs of being brutally illtreated. His face was 'battered out of all recognition, and, according to one witness, was simply reduced to a pulp.
