■ i • , MR. JOHN HENDERSON. i ' > One of Auckland's oldest residents, Mr. 2 John Henderson, died at 1.30 o'clock this morning, in his 79th year, at the.residence - of his daughter, Mrs. A. J. Richmond, in i Curran Street, Ponsonby. Mr. Henderson f was a painter and decorator, and was in Ei business in the sixties in Victoria Street, t'but later removed to the present preHigh Street Failing, health at , ilast compelled Mr. Henderson to depose -of his business and retire from active :; work. . . - . - -
Mr. Henderson took a keen interest in j musical matters, and was one of the first I members of the old St. Matthew's Church Lchoir. He was also one of the members of the first Orpheus Glee Club, and for a Ivery long period belonged- to the Choral j Society. Later in life Mr. Henderson j joined the choir of All Saints' Church, Ponsonby. Deceased was highly 'esteemed by the many friends he had {made during his lengthy life in this city. iHis parents arrived in New Zealand with jthe 58th Regiment at the Bay of Islands, ;and his- father took part in the fights against the famous Maori chief Hone iHeke. '
