CONSCRIPTION FIGHT.
OPPOSING RALLIES. SYDNEY, December 17. It is estimated that 125,000 persons were present in the Domain on Sunday during an anti-conscription demonstration. Mr Ryan (Premier of Queensland) was the chief speaker. Feeling ran high, but there was no disturbance. The anticonscriptionists made most of the opportunity for spreading their views. This was the final rally before the polling day. There were scores of speakers among the packed masses, who found noisy, demonstrative support. Conscription advocates held a counter-demonstration with a solid following. — (A. and N.Z. Cable.) WARNING BY PREMIER. MELBOURNE, December 17. Speaking at a conscription meeting the Prime Minister (Mr Hughes) said that if the people failed to do their duty he believed Parliament would make them. (A. and N.Z. Cable.)
