Kariri Habuaroa, \no died at Waikawa (near Picton) at tho ago of 75 veare, was a rangatira of the Fuketopu Hapu, of the Ngatiawa tribe. He waa the last surviving member of that hapu, His father was one of Rauparaha's captains in tho inter-tribal lighting caused by the differences- that arose between the North Island claimants to the land interests of that locality and the South Island Maoris. It is very interesting to learn (says the "Marlborough Express") that the deceased's grandfather, who died in the Sounds district about 15 years ago, lived to an extremely old age. estimated at 132 years.
