. 9i . PROPOSED COMBATIVE ■ METHODS. FARMERS' UNION DECISIONS. The operations of the Meat Trust in New Zealand were dealt with by the provincial executive of the Farmers' Union, !at its meeting to-day. A letter was read from the Prime Minister, stating, ' lin reference to the unions-request urg- , J jing that legislation be passed to give ' I effect to the recommendations of the ' j Meat and Export Committee, that in his . opinion the Government already had j I sufficient power to enable it to cope with I the operations of the Meat Trusts in the ' Dominion. If, . however, it should be ■ found that further authority was re- i' ! quired, the Government would consider J | the question of submitting legislation ' to Parliament. | Major Lusk said that the general « committee of the Union (of which he I was a member) had obtained a c°Py °* the evidence of the Parliamentary Com- ' mittee which sat to investigate the * question as to whether meat trusts ex- j isted in the Dominion. The general com- ( j mittee decided to recommend the execu- \' | tive to urge on the Government the ' : necessity of giving effect to the recom- ■ mendations contained in the Parlia- ' mentary Committee's report. Resolutions, urging _ farmers to sup-1 : port trading organisations controlled by |. farmers for the purpose of keeping dis- j' jtribntion of their produce in their own j hands, and to resist all temptation to ' place produce in the hands of those firms ' supplied by meat trusts, as revealed in j the report of the Parliamentary Com-' mittee; and urging Government to give ,' effect to the recommendations of the Parliamentary Committee, were carried. ,
