Whancaruru, and Tutuk-.tkn. at noou; Arapawa,~ for Kawhia and Waitara, at 10 juvit It is understood that the small cargo steamer Mana has been purchased by a Dunedin syndicate from the l'atea Shipping Co., Ltd, The Government steamer Hinemoa arrived back at Wellington on Sunday morning. Before leaving port again the vessel will have certain engine-room repairs effected. A novel method of discharging oil. aud one that has probably been put into operation for the first time iv New Zealand, has been adopted in connection with the unloading of a vessel at Duuedin. The oil cargo was brought to Dunedin in bulk. A pipe has been laid under the wharf and the street, and the oil is being pumped through this pipe from the ship into tanks in the yard of the Otago Iron and Steel Company. The total quantity is understood to be about 10.000 gallons, aud the oil is crude oil. to be used principally fnr the engines of the auxiliary schooner Houto. STEAMERS EXPECTED. The Arahura is due here from the East Coast on Thursday, and the Kaituna from Wellington on Wednesday night. The Xgatoro arrives to-day with coal from Greymouth. The Monowal is due ou Thursday from the south. SILTING AT GISBORNE. At last Monday's meeting of the Gisborne Harbour Board the question of silting at the harbour entrance was discussed. It was pointed out there was now 7ft at the end of the breakwater extension where there was formerly 14ft. There was oulj 4ft at the end of the groyne, and it was shoaling 100 ft beyond the extension. The position was very serinus after all that hat! been done and the fttct that 'they wert spending £1000 a month in dredging. II was also pointed out that it was- probable if the river conditions did not improve certain coal steamers might "cut out' Gisborne. rASSEXGERS FOR SOUTH.
