A signaller's letter .from the Sling military camp states that the American Red Cross is being organised on a great 'scale, and twenty million pounds have been raised by volunteer effort within a week. When visiting the Tower of London he met a party of American nurses who came over with the first contingent to land in England. They impressed one, he writes, by their refinement and> intelligence, and bore themselves with an air of quiet confidence and perfect assurance. Several of them wore military decorations, probably obtained- during former service with the Allies.
