MUNICIPAL ORGAN RECITAL.
mm • There was a large attendance at the City organ recital on Saturday evening. The famous instrument was capably handled by Mr. Barnett, and his readings of the different solos gave very much pleasure. He opened with Dubois' " Entree dv Cortege," using the foundation and reed etops to fine advantage. This was followed by Wesley's " Larghetto," which received a subdued and effective performance; especially noticeable was the careful way the variation movement on the great organ was given, and the clear presentment of the solo and accompanying harmonies on the swell-manual. Lemare'a " Adagio Cantabile " and " Scherzo," two movements | from the Symphony in G, written in I genuine organ style, with results as grateful for the executants as the hearers, proved attractive and interest-1 ing. Tasteful registering and contrast marked the rendering of the slow setting, and brilliance and clearness of j manual and pedal work were notable features in the musicianly performance obtained of the scholastic ".Scherzo." Effectively displayed were the carillons 'in the arrangement of a " French Theme," and admirable deliveries were given of Greig's '"Death of Ase" and j" Mountain King," and Henry Smart's '* Festal March." The Lyric Quartet received warm encores after the fini ished performances of Leslie's "The Red ■ Sun " and " Fletcher's " Come Back to Erin." Two organ recitals will be given ■ this week, one on Wednesday afternoon, j and the other on Saturday evening.
