SUPERB FRENCH ELAN.
ALL OBJECTIVES CARRIED. (Received 2.45 p.m.) LONDON, August 16. A French communique reports: "After violent artillery preparation we attacked at dawn, in conjunction with the British. On our rig-lit the infantry, with superb elan, assaulted enemy positions on both sides of the Steenstraate-Dixmude Road, carrying all their objectives. We crossed the Steenbek, and are progressing on the right bank, in contact with the British. "A vigorous attack south of Ailles, in the Aisne sector, carried a solid enemy trench system on a front of over half-a-mile. Four enemy counter attacks were easily repulsed."—(A. and N-Z. and Beuter.)
