TOWN HALL ORGAN RECITAL.
Tin- main counter attractions and in clement ivrinn- made no difference to t!»- attendance at the municipal or-aa recital on Saturday night, wuich was •>-: numiTOUsly patronised as usual. It commenced with Ralph Kinder's " K.veuite- j in us," an attractive composition wuh \ measures of disturbed and compound r!ivthm alternating. Tilt- estp >sh ichord* and flowing themes were phiyril with distinctness and freedom, and the contrasting of massive harmoriea on different manuals, followed by mil.v.c in auhdued registering on the ehuir orj;au, was most clVi'i-tivc. The plaintive •■.Xndante" from Felix Borowski's Sonata So. 1 was delightfully Liven on a cumiiiiiatioii of stops admirably blended. I The icllo t(i!U',l riyisti'is were heard to j npreial advantage in the movement in !•■ mino'-. whilst brilliantly exposed was the mifidle srttiiii: in tin- tonic major j key. \\ idor's " Moderato Lantabilo." fnirn Sonata No. S was very dolirately i handled, the attractive theme was solo- | isi-d "ii the flutr> iif the great orpan. u<- j iiirapanied on the swell, with the same j colour of tone, and soft pedal bourdon. . In tiir '" Poeo Aniniato " the rhythm of dotted i]iiav.T» was well defined, an I the retined laeory of thr music clear!;.' Pxpre-sed. whilst a flowing Iftpato and dainty rejistcrin;: were rommendable feature- in the performance of the double intervals in the X major settinu-. Firmness and ifrandour of playing marked the performan.e of the brilliant •'Finale " which was <]iiit.e orchestral in its effect: whilst Hperially impressive and spread out was the volume of tone in the presentments of the hii-re harmonies of the - Poeo Allargandu." Other iittractively piven solos were Coleridjic-Taylor'e " Kthiopa Saluting I the Colours. - ' from tlie African Ori-hes- ] tra Suite. Thomas' " Mignon Gavotte."' an oiyan and carillon selection, and j Wclv'-T ■• l'ostlude in B Flat." Madanio Lcetrup. accompanied hv Mr. Whittaker. Lave with facility and lightness Kilmllet's " Ondee Printaniere." and tasteful | reading of Saint-Sa-cns' " Softly Awakes I My lleiirt." and Finden's " Ashoo at her : Lattice."
