Stott, marine superintendent at Auckland for the Union Company, who has been on a business visit to Rar'otonga in connection with the survey of the wrecked steamer Maitai. has returnd to Dunedin to make his official report. Masters of vessels from the coast .report strong- and squally weather outside. The captain of a steamer which arrived from Westport said that he left Bulier Buy with the wind south-east. Within a short time it changed to south-west, and again with increase-, force veered to north-west. More recent arrivals report the wind as having changed to south west again, TARAWERA-S PROGRAMME. Good progress is being made with the work of converting the Union Company's steamer Tarawera into a cargo carrier at Port Chalmers. It Is expected that the work will be completed in about eight days' time. The vessel will then go' to Dunedio to load* general cargo for Wellington and Auckland, and is sail from there about Monday, July 9.
