BRITISH LINE EXTENDED EAST OF MESSINES
PROGRESS ON FRONT OF TWO MILES. LONDON', June 13. A report from Sir Douglas Haig states:—We gained further ground today north-east of Messinea, on a front of nearly two miles, occupying the hamlet of Gapaard, a mile and a-half due east of Messines. "VVe also advanced cur line slightly astride the Souchez River early this morning. A later communique states:—There is considerable enemy artillery activity north east of Couzeaueourt, south and north of the Scarpe, and in the neighbourhood of Lens and Ypres. Our aeroplanes did useful work yesterday despite unfavourable weather.—(A. and X.2. Cable.)
