Considerable interest was manifested in the Hamilton East School Committee election last night, the previous election having been declared void owing to an unqualified person having been elected and appointed chairman. There were nluetfeen nominations, and the folldwing were elected: Messrs Lindscy, Hcrcus, Grant, Dey, Jack, Primrose, Burgess; Mesdames Cliff and Joneß. A motion urging an amendment of the Act in the direction that only parents of children attending public schools should be eligible for the election of committees, cnused some heated discussion. An amendment was moved: "That In these times of stress nd amendments to the statutes which had hitherto proved satisfactory should be considered." Both motion and nuiendment were declared lost. Mr Lthdsey was appointed chairman, and Mr Burgess, secretary. A meeting o£ the Chamber of Commerce decided to ask the Minister for Marine to give assistance in the matter of Improved wharfage facilities. It was Stated that traffic on the river had Increased enormously during the last month, over 10 v OOO cases ot kerosene and benzine having been lauded at nniniltou. It was predicted that in live years there would be a regul.it service between Sydney and WftlHatc Heads, also southern ports.
