ANOTHER BREACH MADE

FfflCH ADVANCE IN THE CHAMPAGNE

DESTROYER ACTION OFF DUNKIRK

Another successful attack on the Hindenburg line has developed successfully, and between Bullecourt and Fontaine ies Croisilles the famous line has again been breached, the British having established themselves on a front of a mile. The enemy made many attempts to dislodge the attacking parties, but all failed, and further progress followed the initial success. A large number of enemy dead were found and 150 prisoners were captured. The French have also successfully resumed their offensive in the eastern Champagne and on the great Moronvillers massif and on the slopes of Mont Haut and Mont Cornillet they have made substantial progress, the enemy suffering very heavy losses in the attack. The Germans attempted to drive the French back on the Aisne front, but only gained outpost trenches on a front of two hundred yards. They held up French progress southeast of St. Quentin by flooding the Oise valley, and the French are endeavouring to work round the western end, thus turning the field fortress of St. Gobain, a contingency which the Germans are seeking to avoid. The Italians are still pushing forward north and east of Gorz. The enemy casualties in the first four days of the offensive are estimated at 20,000.
