TURKISH CAVALRY.
i The defeated Turk nearly always falls back on the excuse tnat his cavalry is not suitably mounted, and this is sure to be advanced as a reason for the retreat in Mesopotamia, says an English correspondent. The true role of the Turkish cavalry is that of exploration, not combat. Their horses, obtained from the plains of Anatolia, are wiry animals, but too small to stand the heat of conflict or to draw the heavy guns now in use. Some efforts have been made to introduce larger Hungarian horses, but with little success, the latter not being suitable for the sandy plains of Mesopotamia. 5 ■" .I- ' U C «- a. i. i
