SPANISH SAILORS CHARGED.
The two Spanish sailors, Domingo Carlos and Dominique Varela. who were arrested on a charge of aggravated assault on four firemen on a vessel in port on Monday night, were brought before Mr. E. C. Cutten, S.M., at the Police Court yesterday. Arthur Connell, one of the injured men, stated that Carlos struck him without provocation and threatened to "fix him" later. On returning to the cabin he found Andrew Powell, another fireman, bleeding profusely, and Carlos then attacked him, slashing him four times with a razor, and struck another fireman named Lennon on the head with an iron scraper. Stanley Colquhoun, a quartermaster, said that when he turned to separate the Spaniards from the other men Carlos slashed him on the hip with the razor and cut his coat. Varela did not attack him. Dr. C. E. Coldicutt described Lennon's and Powell's injuries as serious, and stated that he had ordered their re moval to the Hospital. The case was adjourned till this afternoon, in order that the evidence of the two men in hospital might be taken.
