MILITARY NOTES.

■ Some confusion appears to exist regarding, the vertical strips of gold and scarlet braid which certain returned soldiers wear on the left cuff of their khnki jackets. The gold stripe indicates that the wearer has been wounded, and if there are two or three such strips, each indicates a separate occasion on Which the wearer has received a wound. The •red strip simply indicates that the wearer is a returned soldier employed on home or stall' duties, and does not refer to wounds or sickness. It is necessary, from tlie official point of view, as a distinguishing mark, since the Returned Soldiers' Association badge is unofficial, and the red armlet (rarely seen now) is intended to be worn with mufti only.
