* .......i _ - FINES IN WHANGAREI CASES. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WHANGAREI, this day. Mr. E. W. Burton, S.M., to-day gave judgment in. the Commercial Hotel anti. shouting cases heard on Friday and Saturday. The chief witness for the prosecution, Constable Meiklejohn, alleged that the breaches occurred on the 23rd of February. The magistrate stated that he was compelled, after careful anal3"sis. of the evidence, to hold all the charges proved. Christopher Taylor, for shouting, and X. H. "Todd and J. Hambliir of consuming drink paid for by Taylor. Each-of the three defendants was .fined _25. William Mott, barman, who served, them, knowing it was a breach of the War Regulations, was convicted and-fined flO. Court costs were added to the fines. Mr. T. H. Steadman, on behalf, of Mott, urged that the fine be reduced, wiere. upon the magistrate, taking into con. sideration that Mott would lose liii situation for sir months, reduced the fine to £1.. Mr. Steadman asked that costs ' of an appeal, for rehearing be fixed. Sir. Burton arranged to meet counsel in Chambers within 14 day 3to fix the amount of the appeal bond. - ' _ - Decision in the Whangarei. hotel cases was deferred until other cases now bear* heard are concluded. , ,
