CRICKET.

* i THE CHAMPIONSHIPS. GENERALLY MODERATE SCORES. SHORE TROUBLE. THE LEADERS. The matches in the third draw of tbe second round of the Auckland Cricket Association's championship matches were commenced on Saturday. On No. 1 wicket-at Eden Park the leaders (Parnell) batted against North Shore, and made only a moderate showing, being all dismissed, after quiet play, for 168, to which Breese contributed 66. North Shore, in tbe last half-hour, lost three wickets for 45 runs, so that the game remains at an Interesting stage. Singularly enough, Eden, playing ou the neighbouring wicket against. Ponsonby, made exactly the i same score as Parnell did —168—of which 72 were credited to Brooke-Smith. Ponsonby's opening, in reply, was auspicious, 60 runs being put up without loss. Against this, Snedden, who made 48, will not be able to play next Saturday, so that Ponsonby's task now Is the comparatively easy one of making 100 for nine wickets to get the lead ln the game.
