With reference to the statement in our report of the Northeote Borough Council to the effect that Mr. Fraeer, the Mayor, had resigned, Mr. J. B. Tonar, Deputy-Mayor, wTites stating that Mr. Eraser did not resign, but, being actively associated with the preeent scheme to develop the Taranaki iron sand (a work , of national importance), he is frequently absent at New Plymouth, and feels that le cannot devote the necessary time to the affairs of the 'borough. He therefore forwarded a letter intimating his , desire to resign. After consulting with the Council in committee, it Tvas agreed that Mr. Fraser should hold office until ' the end of February, thus caving the npeeesity and expense of an election prior to the general elections in April. At a meeting of creditors to-day, at which there was no quorum, it was j mentioned, incidentally that one prin•ipa.l crediter had gone to the front, | and alse that the bankrupt's solicitor waj in the nj<hti«ff line.
