CONFIDENCE IN ANTI-SUBMARINE MEASURES.
LOSS OF 83,994 TONS JN THRBE DAYS, fUnlttrf Sar-IM.I LONDON, February 11. The losse* through the agency of .-.marines in three days have totalled 83,994 tons, compared with 60,000 tons the previous week. The nation is undisturbed, and is confident of ultimate victory. Speaking at Chelmsford, Mr. E. G. Pretyman, Civil Lord of the Admiralty, said a serious submarine menace at the beginning of the war was defeated, and the present serious menace would share the same fate. He hoped nobody would think that the Admiralty had the slightest fear or doubt of its ability to defeat the onslaught. CHINA THREATENS TO BREAK WITH GERMANY. lAuatrailan and N.Z.
