CITY RATES.

NO GENERAL INCREASE. The Mayor (Mr. J. H. Gunson) told a "Star" reporter that there had been ho increase in the city rates for general and administrative purposes. The gen: erftl rate remained at 1/4. The interest rate, Which had been 1/, Was now 1/3, but this was obviously tbe result of the loans for-the past four or five years, While an amount of 2d., Which had been added. to the drainage rate, had been struck to meet the requirements of the 'Drainage Board. "It is incorrect to Say that there has been an increase in the rate*/' Said Mr. Gunson, "if this means an advance in the amount of the rating for general and administrative purposes."
