A GENERAL INCREASE.

A general increase in war risk insurance " premiums is announced by the local insurance companies. The rate on shipping for the Pacific and Indian Oceans is now 40/ per cent as compared with 5/ per cent previously, while tie premium on shipping to Britain from Australia and New Zealand, via the Cape, has risen from £5 to £8 per cent, and via. the Panama Canal from £4 to £7 per cent. A general increase in the insurance on cargoes carried by sailing vessels has also been made, bringing the premium to 20 per cent except on" shipping to the United States, which is rated at 15 per cent. The increase is ! generally supposed to be due to the : presence of German raiders.
