RECRUITING IN AUCKLAND.

A NOTICEABLE __?ROV_-E-T. YESTERDAY'S ENLISTMENTS. TWENTY-ONE MEN" ACCEPTED. There was a marked improvement yesterday in the number of men that presented themselves at the City Recruiting Station. Of the 26 men who volunteered, mostly for the March quota, 21 were passed as fit for active service. Three were unfit, and two were deferred. Two men previously deferred were accepted. Arthur Challenor, packer, Ponsonby Road. Robert A. Cleland, cinematograph operator, Devonport. COMMITTEE'S WORK. The Mayor (Mr. J. H. Gunson) speaks in glowing terms of the fine work of the Recruiting Committee. He mentions that the work at the City Recruiting Station will be continued as at present. There are 6even voluntary workers assisting the committee, which will be pleased to receive recruits for the 27th and 2Sth Reinforcements. The committee ia to meet to-morrow.

The chairman of the Whakatane County Council received a telegram from the Minister of Defence conveying -hearty congratulations on the fact, that the Bay of Plenty recruiting '_istrict has again -supplied its quota by voluntary enlistment, this time for the Twentysixth Reinforcements.
